Voix du monde 1

The present tense in the book's chapter order, from être and avoir through the regular -er, -ir and -re verbs, the irregular verbs each chapter names, and reflexive verbs. Two closing assignments put the full 72-verb core set in scope by year end.

How this curriculum maps to the textbook

Voix 1 has 11 chapters. This curriculum has 13 assignments, all in the present tense. The infinitive is drilled with each verb's first appearance. Only chapters that teach a conjugation get an assignment.

Chapters with no VerbMaster assignment: Chapter 1 (alphabet, greetings, numbers, cognates) and Chapter 2 (gender and number, articles, il y a). Chapter 2's J'aime is covered by assignment 3; see below.

Apprendre is included in assignment 7 because it conjugates like prendre. Avoir mal à (Chapter 10) is a use of avoir, already drilled in assignment 2. The futur proche (Chapter 5) and the negation and futur proche of reflexive verbs (Chapter 11) are usage topics built on aller and on the reflexive present, both already drilled.

When to start, and pacing

Start VerbMaster around week 2 or 3, after the Chapter 1 material. The first assignment is Être, which the book reaches in Chapter 3. Starting early gives students a base before the chapter arrives.

Suggested cadence: 1 week for the single-verb assignments (1, 2, 4, 6) and 2 weeks for the rest. That fills about 22 weeks of a 36-week year and leaves room for the assignments that usually take longer (7 to 9, and 13).

Auto-generated due dates

VerbMaster's default spacing is 1 week per assignment. Plan to adjust it when you set up the class.

You do not have to manage this closely

You can change assignment splits, due dates and the verb list, or set the curriculum up once and leave it. The spaced-repetition engine personalizes practice per student either way.

Where aimer is drilled

The textbook introduces J'aime… in Chapter 2 as a phrase, three chapters before regular -er verbs. Aimer is a regular -er verb, so VerbMaster drills it in assignment 3 with the other -er verbs rather than as a one-verb assignment in Chapter 2. Students meet j'aime in class in Chapter 2 and drill aime, aimes, aime, aimons, aimez, aiment when the pattern is taught in Chapter 5. The book's phrase and VerbMaster's conjugation agree, so no special framing is needed.

Two assignments beyond the book

Assignments 12 and 13 cover verbs Voix 1 never teaches: the stem-changing -er families (acheter, préférer, appeler, jeter, envoyer, payer, ennuyer) and the remaining irregular verbs in VerbMaster's 72-verb core set (devoir, savoir, venir, connaître, vivre, ouvrir, recevoir and others). They are included so that a student who finishes the year has the full core set in scope, matching VerbMaster's generic French 1 template and preparing them for the Voix 2 Révision du présent.

If you want a curriculum that follows the book exactly, delete assignments 12 and 13 in the curriculum editor before saving. Their verbs will then be left out of the curriculum entirely. Voix 2's first assignment reviews the full core set, so students who skip these will meet those verbs as new material in Voix 2.

What students carry forward

Voix 2's first assignment, Révision du présent, covers every verb in this curriculum in the present tense, including the reflexives and aimer. A student who finishes Voix 1 with VerbMaster will find that assignment already complete in Voix 2 and can go straight to Mastery Reviews.
