Voix du monde + VerbMaster

If your school uses Voix du monde, VerbMaster has ready-made curriculum templates for all three levels, built against each book's scope and sequence.

Each level has its own instructor companion guide below. It shows how the VerbMaster assignments map to the textbook chapters, how to pace them across the year, and the few places where VerbMaster and Voix frame content differently, so you can explain them in class ahead of time.

How the curricula are structured

The Voix VerbMaster curricula are cumulative. Voix 1 teaches the present tense. Voix 2 opens with a Révision du présent covering all of Voix 1, then adds the impératif, the passé composé, the imparfait and the futur simple. Voix 3 re-teaches those tenses as chapter topics and adds the passé composé of reflexive verbs, the conditionnel and the subjonctif. A student who uses VerbMaster for all three years drills every tense the series teaches across VerbMaster's core set of 72 verbs.

The 72 are chosen to cover every conjugation pattern a student meets in French: regular -er, -ir and -re verbs; the -cer and -ger spelling changes; the acheter, préférer, payer and appeler stem-change families; the irregular -ir, -re and -oir verbs; and reflexive verbs. A student who masters these 72 can conjugate an unfamiliar verb by recognizing its pattern. (More on the method in the Conjugation Cascade.)

The textbook teaches usage (savoir vs connaître, passé composé vs imparfait, subjonctif vs indicatif). VerbMaster handles the conjugation drilling. The two run alongside each other.

About aimer (Voix 1)

Voix 1 introduces J'aime… in Chapter 2 as a fixed phrase, three chapters before regular -er verbs are taught in Chapter 5. Aimer is a regular -er verb, so VerbMaster drills it in the Chapter 5 assignment with the other -er verbs rather than as a one-verb assignment in Chapter 2. Students meet j'aime in class in Chapter 2 and drill the full conjugation when the pattern is taught. The book's phrase and VerbMaster's conjugation agree, so no special framing is needed.

About the passé composé

VerbMaster drills the passé composé as a full tense. Each prompt asks for the auxiliary and the participle together: j'ai parlé, elle est allée, nous nous sommes levés. For être verbs the participle agrees with the subject, and VerbMaster asks for the il and elle forms (and ils and elles) separately so students practice the agreement.

Reflexive verbs in Voix 2. Reflexive verbs take être, so the Voix 2 Passé composé avec être assignment includes the eight reflexive verbs in the verb list, even though the book does not teach the passé composé of reflexive verbs until Voix 3 Chapter 4. The forms follow the same être pattern with the reflexive pronoun before the auxiliary: je me suis levé(e). The Voix 2 companion explains what to tell students and how to remove the reflexives if you prefer.
