25.1 Spell-Change Verbs
We've seen these verbs before, back in the preterite indicative. In the subjunctive these are going to change again in the same way (C → QU; G → GU; Z → C), but now they'll do it in all forms (not just the yo form). Just like before, these spell changes allow the spelling and the pronunciation to work together. See here:
There Could Be More!
Some teachers might tell you that there are many more spell-changing verbs in the preterite, but the way VerbMaster has set it up, we have "caught" a lot of potential irregulars and made the subjunctive a bit more tidy for you. Starting from the yo form of the present indicative and removing the -O saved you a lot of trouble.
This includes other spell-changing verbs like -GUIR verbs; -CER/-CIR verbs; and -GER/-GIR verbs. Don't worry if you run into those: follow the rules for conjugating the "regular present subjunctive", and you will be fine.
